46 And Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord.
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49 Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him.
51 He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
52 He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.
53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
54 He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy:
55 As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever.
| My Soul Doth Magnify The Lord! |
Short Explanation:
"My soul doth magnify the Lord" - What a beautiful outburst of love from Our Mother Mary! For those of you who are not regular readers of The Bible (I was not until recently), this act of love on the part of the Blessed Virgin was made just after She met Elizabeth at the Visitation.
This beautiful verse of Mary's is not only wonderfully poetic, but also prophetical. "...from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." This statement foreshadows the Catholic Churches love and devotion to Our Blessed Mother. In fact, it blesses our love for Mary and tells us when we pray to Her and give Her homage we are not "worshiping false idols," as the Protestants or the Jews might say. In fact, in the very prayer that Mary says this line, she also says, "Because He that is mighty hath done great things for me; and holy is His name," to show that all generations would call Her blessed, not because of Herself, but because of the blessings God gave Her. In fact she continues on to bless the strength and mercy of God the Father till the very last line of the verse, showing her unending love for her Spiritual Spouse.
Why I Chose This Verse:
Whenever I do a Bible meditation, I will give an explanation of why I chose the verse I meditated on. Today's is obvious because it is an explanation of why I chose my blog title, "My Soul Doth Magnify Him." It is one of my all-time favorite Bible readings and a very beautiful act of love. I, like Mary, wish for my soul to magnify Him, and hope that with this blog, I can help my soul magnify Him, but also help others souls to do so as well.
I hope you have enjoyed this Bible meditation. To meditate even more on this wonderful reading, I suggest you listen to my favorite song version of it for which I have posted a video below. Imagine Mary, carrying the baby Jesus, glorifying The Being, who made it possible for Her, a lowly maiden, to be the Mother of the Church, of all people, and most importantly, the Mother of God Himself.
God bless you!
Enjoying your blog, M.R.O.S.! (Or, should I say, M. "R.M-T.M.J.C." O. S. ?) You neglected to mention how awesome that choir is... Of course I could be biased...
